The first reason why is because they save their food for later like they do in the wild. This acts as some sort of back up plan should there not be a fresh source of food later in the day. You can avoid this by portioning the amount of food that you feed your cat so it doesn’t leave too much leftovers.
The other reason why is because their whiskers are too sensitive. As long as the side of the bowl grazes your cat’s whiskers, your cat is going to think that it is too narrow and it may get stuck.
